Hawkeye
Community
College's New Waverly Center Open for Business
Posted 3 February
2010
Hawkeye Community College now has an outreach center in Waverly. The
Waverly Outreach Center is located at Willow Lawn Mall, 215 – 20th
Street NW. The center opened in the fall of 2009, and Spring Semester
classes will begin the week of January 11. The hours are currently
8:00am-1:30pm, and the center will be open from 8:00am-8:30pm beginning
in January. Financial Aid will provide services on the fourth Thursday
of the month beginning in February, and COMPASS testing can be done at
the Center as well.
The Center will be providing COMPASS testing opportunities on Wednesday
mornings. Appointments for testing will be available between 8:30 and
11:30am. Call 319-296-4288 for an appointment. There is no initial cost
for the testing and anyone interested in attending Hawkeye Community
College can test.
COMPASS is a test used to help the college identify student's abilities
in the areas of reading, mathematics, and writing. This academic
assessment tool allows Hawkeye to assess student's strengths and to set
the student up with a plan for success in their desired field of study.
The Waverly Outreach center is also hosting GED courses on Tuesday and
Thursdays evenings. The classes run from 6:00-8:00pm and are available
to all interested individuals seeking a GED certificate. Hawkeye will
also be offering general education courses in Waverly.
Project Lead the Way is also being hosted at the Waverly Outreach
Center. Project Lead the Way is a pre-engineering program for 9th-12th
grade high school students seeking further education in the engineering
field. Interested students should contact their guidance counselor.
If you have questions or have an interest in the COMPASS testing at the
Waverly Center, please contact the center at 319-296-4288. For general
questions about the COMPASS test, please contact Student Services at
319-296-4014. |
